Cold Callers – you got me.
I fell for it.
You snuck through my call screening… or at least “Connor” did.
This week I got a call, and my iPhone has call screening and everything turned on. The screen said, “This is Connor, returning your call.”
Now, I don’t think I’ve called any Connor.
But I do have a rep for one of my vendors, and I’d seen him that morning.
And guess what his name is?
Connor. (obviously)
So I’m thinking, well, maybe he needed something. I just talked to him. I picked up the call.
It wasn’t him.
It was somebody going, “Hey, I want to buy your house.”
I said, I thought you said you were returning my call. And he said, “I just said that to get you to pick up the call.”
Man, I was not having any of it. I probably said some things that were a little bit unkind. He ended up hanging up on ME, cause I was letting him have it.
But now I have a genuine question for the cold callers out there.
I’m sure the fake “returning your call” line increases your pickup rate. But are you getting good conversations out of it?
To me, I was just immediately ticked off. I was straight-up lied to, just to get me to answer the phone.
So I’m curious. Is that actually an effective strategy?
