Direct mail is not a silver bullet…
But every once in a while it sure feels like it is!
I mail lasers to people who ignore me.
… pens with laser pointers on them. (Yes, even in the year 2026 sharks with lasers on them is still impractical so I stuck with pens for the forseeable future)
Here’s what I do:
If a potential client ghosts you. You’re emailing. You’re calling. Hey, I’m still here! What’s next, stalking them on Facebook?
Here’s the math. If they were never a good prospect, you can just let it go. But what if they were? This could have been a good deal.
Because people do this. People get busy. They don’t mean anything by it.
They just kind of forget about you. Your follow-up messages become easy to ignore noise.
So instead I find myself a nice little padded envelope. I print off my email follow up correspondence. And into the mail it goes, along with a little laser pointer.
This is intentionally cheesy.
The note says something like: “Hey, we recently talked about helping you laser target some leads, so I got you this little laser pointer. Is this something you’re still interested in?” And attached is the follow up they’ve been ignoring.
The tie-in is right over the top on purpose.
And I’ll tell you, that gets more people back in the mix than any amount of continued email follow up.
Is it time consuming? A little more effort? Sure. But it’s one of the highest ROI activities we’ve found.
Every month or quarter, gather up your ghosted prospects. It’s usually a small group. Not everybody. Just the good ones. Send out ten, fifteen, thirty of those little packets.
Boom. Super high ROI on that type of reengagement campaign.
