You’re too confident.
And it could be killing your response rates.
Especially if you’re doing outreach.
My inbox is overflowing with people who’ve been working with “companies just like mine.”
My favorite was an email to Pipelineology, back when I had three employees, that named a company “like mine.” One I may have heard of. It’s called Panasonic.
They only have 183,000 employees. So, close.
So much confidence. And none of it earned.
Here’s what I figured out years ago: you’re going to get a better response, and a friendlier response, from people (even the ones who aren’t interested) if you just ask questions.
You can even soften it further. “I’m not sure if this is relevant to you.” “I don’t know if this is on your radar, but would you be interested in…”
I realize that sounds backwards. It’s adding words. It’s making the whole pitch LESS confident.
But in outreach, I’ve seen a less confident approach consistently outperform it’s confident alternative.
Being a little less confident in your outreach will improve your results and increase the number of meetings and good responses you get.
